Community Series Concert Brings Van Cliburn Medalist to Grayson College

Grayson College will host world-class pianist Daniel Hsu, bronze medalist in the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, on Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cruce Stark Auditorium as part of the Community Series Texoma Concerts.

“The Cliburn Competition is widely-recognized as one of the world's highest-visibility classical-music contests and supports the careers of young pianists to share the transformative powers of music with a wide global audience,” said Dr. David Tercero, Program Director for the Grayson College Music Department.  “Last year's concert was amazing, so I expect this concert to be great, too!”

A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Daniel Hsu began his studies at age 6 with Larisa Kagan. He made his concerto debut with the Fremont Symphony Orchestra at age 8, and his recital debut at the Steinway Society of the Bay Area at age 9, before being accepted into Curtis at the age of 10, along with his two older siblings. He was first-prize winner of the 2015 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, made his Carnegie Hall debut in April 17, and is currently the Richard A. Doran Fellow at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where he has studied with Gary Graffman, Robert McDonald, and Eleanor Sokoloff.

According to Scott Cantrell at the Dallas Morning News, Hsu “... blew every other chamber music performance out of the water. Right from the start, this was a boldly molded account, with a natural feeling for the rise and fall of intensity, the give and take of rubato.” And for music lovers, the concert is sure to be outstanding.

Tickets are $15 for community members and $5 for Grayson College employees. The GC Music Club is currently selling the $5 tickets on campus. Admission for students is free with ID.
